About Piedmont Housing Alliance

Since 1983, Piedmont Housing Alliance has envisioned a community where everyone has pathways to home and places to thrive. We steward housing opportunity, foster communities of care, and strive to improve life outcomes. We do this through community-centered affordable housing development, quality property management, engaged resident services, shared learning, and financial education and lending. Our work reflects our core values of home, justice, respect, hope, and community.

Our holistic housing services include:

Workforce and Senior Rental Housing Development: Through redevelopment and new construction, Piedmont Housing is the largest workforce and senior housing development organization in the region. Piedmont Housing is the region's only Virginia-certified Community Housing Development Organization (CHDO).

Rental Housing Property Management: We currently manage over 600 rental apartments in the City of Charlottesville and Albemarle and Nelson Counties that are affordable to lower income seniors and working households.

Onsite Resident Services: As a Certified Organization for Residential Engagement & Services (CORES), we provide robust resident services, from onsite food pantry deliveries to hosting bingo to leadership opportunities for residents to guide their communities.

Homeownership Counseling and Financial Coaching: Our HUD-approved homeownership counseling program provides one-on-one coaching for home buying, credit improvement, debt reduction, savings programs, fair housing, and foreclosure prevention. We offer free classes in the community and are a Virginia Housing Development Authority-approved provider of First Time Homebuyer Education, a required step to access homeownership incentive programs.

Down Payment Loans: Piedmont Housing Alliance administers funds for secondary loans that can be used for down payment and other closing costs. The financial resources we offer to aspiring homebuyers are made possible by funding from local, state, and federal sources and through our certification by the U.S. Treasury as a Community Development Financial Institution (CDFI) and by HUD as an FHA Secondary Financing Provider.

Piedmont Community Land Trust (PCLT): The PCLT creates homeownership opportunities for families who make 80% or less of the Area Median Income (AMI) to purchase a home in the City of Charlottesville and Albemarle, Fluvanna, Greene, Louisa, and Nelson Counties
