Boston MA — On July 11th, human resource professionals from 10 member organizations met in Chicago for the Network's first human resources peer exchange. Sponsored by Housing Partners in Health (HPIH), the Networks health insurance initiative launched this past March, the day-long event focused on issues surrounding employee health insurance, specifically the advantages and responsibilities of a self-insured health insurance program.
"It was great to get this group together," said Patrick Fenton, deputy executive director of ACTION-Housing. "The health insurance initiative can be important for many Network members in the future. Getting the people who do this work together in an atmosphere where they feel comfortable sharing with their peers is invaluable. I hope we can do more of it in the future."
Key employee benefits staff from IMA Financial Group, which is playing a program management role for Housing Partners in Health, were on hand for the session and offered updates on the impact of the new federal health insurance mandate and the current market trends. Staff from ACTION-Housing, which has joined HPIH, shared their experience with the self-insured program. Aeon and BRIDGE Housing discussed their implementation of Health Risk Management programs in anticipation of joining HPIH at the end of the year. Nevada HAND, the fourth initial member of HPIH, was unable to attend but continues to play a leadership role in the effort. Additional discussion topics included Structuring Employee Benefit Plans and communicating benefit programs to employees.
