The Planning Office for Urban Affairs (POUA) was established in 1969 and is affiliated with the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Boston. POUA has developed 2,000 rental units, and over the past few years has dramatically increased its affordable housing production. Rollins Square, its recently completed 184-unit, mixed-income complex in Boston’s South End received a Fannie Mae Maxwell Award of Excellence and has been widely-praised as a premier example of high mission-oriented development in a very affluent neighborhood. POUA’s developments serve families with children; homeless individuals and families; frail elderly residents; the working poor; people with HIV/AIDS; and middle-income people.
