Since its founding in 1984, the Low income Investment Fund's (LIIF) lending and technical assistance have helped hundreds of community organizations serving the nation's hardest-to-reach populations. LIIF has provided capital and technical assistance totaling nearly $880 million in 26 states across the nation. LIIF's assistance, in turn, has leveraged investments in poor communities of more than $5.3 billion and has supported 55,000 units of affordable and supportive housing, over 100,000 child care spaces, 46,000 classroom spaces, and 2.5 million square feet of commercial and nonprofit office space. Though it operates nationally, LIIF focuses its work in three core markets: Northern California, Southern California, and the New York City metropolitan area – areas which are home to nearly 20 percent of the country's low income population.
