Since 1982, the NHS of New York City has been creating and preserving affordable housing, assisting lower-income families to become homeowners, and building community leadership. Focusing on traditionally underserved, minority neighborhoods in Manhattan, Brooklyn, Staten Island, North and South Bronx, and Queens, the NHS of NYC has assisted more than 100,000 residents and rehabilitated more than 6,000 homes. Since 2000, it has packaged and helped close first-mortgage loans totaling more than $175 million. Just in 2005, the NHS of NYC helped 500 lower-income families to purchase homes, made more than $4 million in loans through its revolving loan fund, and provided pre- and post-purchasing counseling to 11,000 families.
